In a significant development, the Maharashtra Police apprehended an auto rickshaw driver in the Palghar district, who is accused of murdering a passenger over a fare disagreement back in 2001.
The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Ali Mustakin Ali Sayyed, was arrested in Talasari as authorities decided to revisit this cold case.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, the victim, 56-year-old Moharam Ali Mohammad Ibrahim Ali, was fatally stabbed multiple times by Sayyed on October 14, 2001, following a dispute regarding the auto fare, as stated by a senior police inspector.
The inspector noted that the accused had evaded capture for years. However, a police team initiated a renewed investigation five months ago, focusing on locating witnesses and gathering evidence.
Efforts to Solve the Case
The police conducted searches in Sayyed's hometown in Uttar Pradesh and enlisted the help of informants to track him down.
Tragic Incident in Bhopal
In an unrelated incident, a 51-year-old man suffered a fatal heart attack in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, after his eight-year-old son became trapped in an elevator due to a sudden power outage.
The incident occurred in the Jatkhedi area under the Misrod police station's jurisdiction on the night of May 26. The deceased, Rishiraj Bhatnagar, resided on the third floor of an apartment with his family.
Circumstances of the Heart Attack
On the night of the incident, Bhatnagar went downstairs and found his younger son. He instructed the boy to return home, and as the child entered the elevator, a power cut occurred, causing Bhatnagar to panic, leading to his heart attack.
Fortunately, the power was restored shortly after, allowing the child to exit the elevator safely. Misrod police station in charge, Manish Raj Singh Bhadauriya, confirmed that Bhatnagar was declared dead upon arrival at a private hospital, and an investigation is underway.
